How to make baked spaghetti casserole

First, gather your ingredients.

Ingredients

For tastiest results, always use the best quality ingredients you have access to.

pasta, spaghetti sauce and other ingredients on a white surface

You will need: eggs, spaghetti pasta, butter, garlic, oregano, spaghetti sauce (homemade or store-bought, meatless or with meat added), ricotta, parmesan and mozzarella.

I recommend using my homemade spaghetti sauce. Alternatively, you could brown some ground beef, and add a jar of store-bought marinara to make a quicker option. To see more on this method, check out my lazy lasagna recipe.

Preparing and assembling

Grease or spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions, drain and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, parmesan cheese and butter. Add the cooked spaghetti to the egg mixture and toss to coat it all. Make sure the butter is cooled so you don’t get scrambled eggs!

In a medium size bowl combine the ricotta cheese with the oregano, garlic powder, olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper and mix until smooth.

Now it is time to assemble the layers of the baked spaghetti casserole. Spread ¼ cup of the sauce into the bottom of the baking dish then place half of the spaghetti mixture into the greased 9×13 baking dish.

Repeat layers.

Baking

So how long do you cook baked spaghetti casserole, and at what temperature? Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for 10 minutes longer or until the cheese is melted.

Remove, let cool and garnish with fresh chopped basil.
