Our easy, delicious Egg Roll in a Bowl recipe is not only a snap to throw together, but you get all of the flavors you know and love from your favorite Chinese appetizer without all the extra oil from deep frying. If you love egg rolls, this is a must-try recipe!

Egg Roll deconstructed in a white bowl

If your family loves egg rolls, you cannot skip this. This dish could easily be turned into a full meal, and comes together in only 20 minutes. Using bagged cabbage cuts the prep time down significantly, and you won’t miss any of the time NOT spent rolling and deep frying egg rolls.

Not only is it healthier than traditional egg rolls, it is faster, easier to prepare, and keeps all of the incredible flavors you know and love. We swap out the ground pork for ground turkey in this version, which also saves some fat without sacrificing the added protein.

If you like this, you’ll really love our Asian Ramen Slaw! Same vibe, easy prep, and delicious end result.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons avocado oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey dark meat I prefer or a mix of dark/white
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 6 scallions thinly sliced (green and white parts)
  • 1 medium carrot peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1, 12- ounce bag coleslaw mix 5 cups
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon sriracha optional
  • Sesame seeds as garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. In a large nonstick skillet with high sides, heat avocado oil over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the ground turkey and sprinkle with salt. Break apart the turkey with a wooden spoon and cook for 5 minutes until mostly cooked through.

  3. Push the turkey to the side of the pan. Carefully tilt the pan and use a spoon to remove any excess liquid from the pan and discard it.

  4. To the other side of the pan, add the sesame oil, scallions, carrots, garlic and ginger and cook over medium-high heat for 3 minutes until everything begins to soften.

  5. Mix with the ground turkey.

  6. Add the coleslaw mix, soy sauce, maple syrup and sriracha. Reduce to medium heat and cook for 5 minutes, mixing occasionally.

  7. Taste and add more sriracha if you like a spicier dish. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • SUPER DELICOUS AND EASY RECIPE!
  • The coleslaw mix is essentially made up of green cabbage, red cabbage and carrot. So if
you can’t find a pre-bought slaw bag, you can shred 1 carrot, and then thinly slice or
shred purple cabbage and red cabbage until it all totals about 5 cups (not packed).
