These are unique and delicious! Most of the chicken sliders I have seen are made with shredded chicken or rotisserie chicken. I wanted to do these more of a classic burger style, with a slightly leaner profile than their beef counterparts.
I am calling them an appetizer officially, but you could totally make a main meal off a couple of these. Especially if you round it out with a yummy side, such as air fryer sweet potato fries or oven baked sweet potato fries.
They are a popular choice at our house for snacking on while watching college football! Or they can easily make a low key, easy dinner your family loves.
How to Make Chicken Sliders
First, gather your ingredients.
Ingredients
For best taste, always use the highest quality ingredients you have access to.
To make this Chicken Sliders recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
- Ground chicken
- Onion
- Egg
- Breadcrumbs
- Dijon mustard
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Black pepper
- Avocado oil
- Red onion
- White vinegar
- Water
- Honey
- Mayonnaise
- Garlic
- Lemon juice
- Hawaiian Sweet Rolls or mini burger buns (we like King’s Hawaiian brand)
- Cheddar cheese
- Unsalted butter
- Sesame seeds (optional garnish for tops of the rolls)
You can consider adding some buffalo sauce or bbq sauce to the chicken mixture for a spicy kick, or use provolone, mozzarella cheese or pepper jack cheese for a different flavor profile. Or top with ranch dressing instead of the garlic aioli. Feel free to customize!
These have more ingredients than I typically use, but they are so worth it! And nothing crazy – all basic, simple ingredients.
Cooking Chicken Sliders
Chicken Sliders are a simple recipe that can be made in just a few simple steps.
Make the burgers
In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, mustard, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper.
Use your hands to mix everything together until well combined. Form into 12 small burger patties, about 2 1⁄2” in diameter.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat, and add 1 tablespoon avocado oil. Once hot, sear 6 patties at a time for 5 minutes per side until cooked through (registering 165°F on an instant-read meat thermometer).
Set onto a plate once ready, and cook remaining patties with remaining avocado oil. Optionally let patties cool and store covered in the fridge if you’re making this recipe a day in advance!
Make Quick Pickled Onions
Place vinegar, water, salt, and honey into a small pot. Whisk and bring to a boil.
Turn off the heat, and add the sliced onions into the pot so they’re submerged. Let sit for 15 minutes.
Make the Garlic Aioli
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, garlic, lemon, salt, and pepper together until well combined.
This makes such a yummy, creamy sauce that really elevated these chicken sliders. Set in the fridge until ready to use.
Assemble the Sliders
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Slice the slider buns in half lengthwise. Line a large rimmed cookie sheet with foil. Separate the slider bun tops from each other so they’re no longer attached (if applicable).
Place the top half of the buns onto one side of the cookie sheet (top side facing upwards) and use a pastry brush to brush the top of the buns with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Separate the slider bun bottoms from each other so they’re no longer attached (if applicable). Place the bottom half of the buns onto the other side of the baking sheet. Spread 1 teaspoon garlic aioli onto each bun, top with chicken slider and shredded cheese.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melty, bubbly and oozing. Take the pan out of the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
Top each cheesy slider with some pickled onions.
You could serve all or some of them like this, for people who prefer low carb options. I would be sure and include some of the garlic aioli in that scenario.
To assemble them into actual sliders, spoon about 1 tablespoon of garlic aioli onto each toasted top bun (the bottom side of it) and place directly on top of each onion-cheese-burger to “close” the sandwich.
Serve the excess garlic aioli on the side. And enjoy!
Leftovers
This recipe tastes best fresh. But sometimes you may have leftovers. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Always use common sense and good judgement when it comes to leftovers, though! If something looks or smells funky, don’t eat it.
I hope y’all enjoy this chicken sliders recipe! Let me know if you try them.

-
Nutritional information is approximate and was calculated using a recipe nutrition label generator.
- I have made these without cheese, and they were still delicious!
- For those who eat low carb or gluten free you can serve these it without the bun and it is still fantastic!
- For prepping in advance, prep all the components (and even put sliders in the fridge & rewarmed in the oven at 350 for 15 minutes). Then do the “Assemble” steps 20 minutes before serving.
