We make them in my house all the time. They are so good that I forget that they are actually healthy.

If you have an air fryer, you might want to check out my air fryer sweet potato fries recipe.

Yes, sweet potatoes are one of the powerhouse veggies. They pack tons of great nutrition, plus they taste really good.

It only takes a little bit of oil to give them that crispy outside texture. I use about a teaspoon of olive oil per serving.oven baked sweet potato fries

Olive oil is also really good for you. I use avocado oil to make these too. Either way, you can check off one of your healthy oils for the day.😉

How to make oven baked sweet potato fries

Here is how to make the BEST oven baked sweet potato fries. Go ahead and preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lazy Girl Tips

I prefer to leave the skin on my sweet potatoes. It is just easier, plus I like eating the skins. Feel free to peel yours if you choose.

I prefer to use parchment paper to line my baking sheet. I find this works much better than cooking spray at preventing the fries from sticking to the pan. Plus, it makes for super easy clean-up.

Tip: I buy my parchment paper in gargantuan sized rolls from Costco. It is WAY cheaper there than it is at my grocery store. You could try a silicon baking liner, or just use cooking spray if you don’t have any parchment paper on hand.

How to cut sweet potato fries

I slice up my sweet potato with a good sharp knife into fry pieces. I do this by cutting off the skinny ends, and then cutting the sweet potato in half, right through the thickest part of the potato in the middle.

Next, I sit one half up on the flat side, and I start cutting slices. I did four slices in this case. This can vary, based on the width of your potato.

Try to keep these around the same size. You can go thinner or fatter than I did, but just keep it semi-consistent. You gotta commit to your fry size, people. 😆🙃

Mine are about pinkie finger sized, between 1/4 in and 1/2 inch.

Alrighty then, let’s get to seasoning and cooking!

Seasoning

Place the potato slices in a mixing bowl, along with the oil, salt, pepper and paprika.

Toss to coat.

How to bake sweet potato fries

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Those silicone baking mats also work really well and produce zero waste.

Arrange the potatoes on the baking sheet, and bake for about 35 minutes. Serve immediately.

Can I make this oil free?

Yes! It changes the texture a little bit, but they are still very tasty, and I have done this many times. The seasoning may also tend to fall off a little more without oil.

Another alternative is to use an oil sprayer to reduce the amount of oil.

There are many reasons some may need to reduce or eliminate oil. And sometimes, in more practical terms, we run out of things! Either way, these will still be good without oil.

Do you wash the potatoes at all first?

These were absolutely delicious! So crispy and tender, but not mushy like some other recipes I’ve tried.

You can make it without oil, but they might not get quite as crispy. Have you considered an air fryer? They do a great job with crisping things up without oil. Just FYI.

Not crispy but very tasty. I didn’t use parchment paper because I didn’t have it but they were very good. I used rosemary instead of paprika because I like it better. Our son was visiting and liked it too. It was easy to cut up the potato and it made more than I thought it would. Will definitely make it again.

If you want to make your fries more crunchy/crispy, I recommend boiling the potatoes for a few minutes first, tossing them in oil, baking them at a slightly higher temperature (be careful with the time) and then seasoning them!
