Banana Bread Recipe {Made with Whole Wheat Pastry Flour}

Today I am sharing a modified version of one of my most popular recipes – my healthy banana bread.

This has been one of my most viewed recipes on the blog. I wrote this recipe before I discovered whole wheat pastry flour.

My original recipe called for half white all-purpose flour, and half whole wheat flour. And that recipe is great. But! This modification uses ALL 100% whole wheat pastry flour. And the results are a dream come true. It is still light and fluffy as ever, but now with the benefit of being 100% whole grain.

I shared this video on YouTube (<- subscribe!) last week, and I wanted to post it here as well. I’ll be adding the video to the original recipe post as well.

The KitchenAid mixer I am using is linked here (Amazon affiliate).

I hope you enjoy this video!

    Been looking for something to make with some pastry flour, which I have not used before. This looks like the ticket. Will try to remember to post on the results. Thanks!

    My favorite banana bread is the Flour Bakery of Boston Ma. Today, however, I made this healthy banana bread recipe……I did add some chopped pecans. It’s delicious. For some reason the ends came out very caramel tasting……The ends of most banana breads are not too my liking. I did use BOBS whole wheat pastry flour which is easy obtainable at most markets. BANANA BREAD IS USUALLY MY GO TO BREAKFAST WITH A CUP OF COFFEE….I MADE IT IN A 9 X 5 PAN. NEXT TIME I WILL MAKE IT IN AN 8 X 4. I HAVE 12 THICK SLICES WHICH I HAVE WRAPPED INDIVIDUALLY AND EACH SLICE WILL BE IN A REUSABLE PLASTIC BAG AND FROZEN. SENDING THIS RECIPE TO MY DAUGHTER WHO IS THE QUEEN OF BANANA BREAD.

    Oh good! I am so glad you enjoyed it. I have a few overly-ripe bananas in my kitchen right now. 🤔 I should totally put them to good use and make some. 😋😉

    Thanks for the video! I’ve recently found Whole Wheat Pastry flour at Hi-V grocery. This was my first visit to Hi-V and it was the largest healthy/organic section I’ve seen in a grocery store! Im a fan of your blueberry muffin recipe also…trying very hard to reduce sugar. Do you have a substitute suggestion for the sugar on this banana bread recipe? Marjorie, when is your baby due?

      We don’t have Hi-V here, but it sounds like they have a good selection. I am glad you found some! And I am so glad you liked the blueberry muffins recipe. I have never made this with anything but regular sugar, so I am not sure about that. You could try it with stevia, but I am not sure how that would taste. Maple syrup would cause you to have to either reduce some of the other wet ingredients, or increase the dry ingredients to make a good texture. Let me know if you try any substitutions. I’d be curious to hear. My baby will be here around New Years Day. 🙂
