How to make a grilled chicken sandwich

First, gather your ingreedients.

Ingredients

For tastiest results, always use the best quality ingredients you have access to.

Ingredients with label text on white surface

To make this grilled chicken sandwich recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • boneless skinless chicken breast
  • olive oil
  • lemon juice
  • Italian seasoning
  • garlic powder
  • salt and black pepper
  • honey
  • mayonnaise – store-bought, but you can always use homemade mayo if you prefer
  • barbecue sauce
  • dijon mustard
  • lemon juice
  • whole wheat hamburger buns, or brioche buns
  • Toppings of choice: Lettuce, tomato slices, sliced red onion

You can use another oil if you need to – such as avocado oil. And the burger bun of your choice. Brioche buns would be so yummy with this.

How to make the BEST grilled chicken sandwich

Here is how to make this yummy grilled chicken sandwich. Place your hand on top of each chicken breast and carefully slice each breast in half, lengthwise. Use kitchen scissors or a knife to trim any excess fat from the chicken.

In a medium bowl combine the lemon, olive oil, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper and honey and mix well to combine.

Place the chicken into a bowl of shallow dish and pour the marinade over the chicken.

Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Heat up a grill, grill pan or cast iron pan to medium heat and add some oil to prevent sticking. Lay the chicken onto the pan and cook each piece for 3 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. A meat thermometer is very helpful for this.

Note: Larger pieces of chicken may need slightly more cooking time. Continue until you have cooked all 4 pieces of chicken.

Made it this week of 100 degree weather/no oven cooking, absolutely delicious. Paired it with some sweet potato fries, perfection. Going in the rotation.

I made this dish tonight. The sauce was great with the burger, but the chicken marinated was the best! Recipe is a keeper. Thanks so much.

Searched for a grilled chicken recipe and found this one. So glad I did! Quadrupled the marinade and used about 2 pounds chicken breast tenderloin.
Everyone loved it including the sauce!!
    Definitely a “do again”!
