Macerated Strawberries

This is how to make macerated strawberries, which are great as topping on desserts and other dishes.

Ingredients

Plain

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries - sliced
  • 2-4 tablespoons white sugar - add more if the strawberries are not sweet enough
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Balsamic

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries - sliced
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar - add more if the strawberries are not sweet enough
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • Pinch kosher salt

Instructions

Plain

  1. Add the sliced strawberries to a medium size bowl. Sprinkle the sugar and lemon juice over the strawberries and toss to coat them all. Start with 2 tablespoons of sugar then taste and add more if the strawberries are not sweet enough.
  2. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Serve over ice cream, pancakes, or on cheesecake.

Balsamic

  1. Add the sliced strawberries to a medium size bowl. Sprinkle the sugar and balsamic vinegar over the strawberries and toss to coat them all.
  2. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Serve at room temperature.
