Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup onion finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 28 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 1 to 2 tsp honey or sugar to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil - optional for garlish

Instructions

  1. Heat up a large saute pan to medium heat. Once hot, add in the ground beef and cook until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as you cook it. Season the meat with a little salt and pepper.
  2. Add in the onion and garlic and cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, stirring the onion and garlic into the meat as it cooks.
  3. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, honey or sugar and some more salt and pepper and bring the mixture to a low simmer, stirring frequently. Let the sauce simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Use a potato masher or fork to break up the tomatoes as they cook.

  4. Serve warm over your favorite fresh cooked pasta with a garnish of chopped basil.
