Grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter. Set aside.
-
Cut the bread into slices then cut each slice in half on a diagonal into a triangle.
-
In a medium mixing bowl mix together the eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
-
Layer the slices of bread in the pan in two or three rows slightly overlapping each slice of bread. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bread, cover the pan with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and remove the casserole from the refrigerator, uncover it and place it on the counter while the oven preheats. Once the oven is ready, place the casserole on the middle rack in the oven and bake for 30 minutes until the tops and edges of the bread are nice and golden brown.
-
Once the casserole is done you can top it with melted butter, cinnamon sugar, a drizzle of maple syrup, and chopped pecans, if desired.
