Grilled turkey burgers are a delicious and heart-healthy meal you can make all grilling season long.
We rely so much on our grill for dinners this time of year. And we LOVE a great grilled turkey burger. I know there are tons of variations of turkey burgers these days, but we love ours classic style.
Side note: see all of my homemade fries recipes here that would go great with these grilled turkey burgers.
Ingredients
For best results and best taste, always use the best quality ingredients that you have access to.
Side note: I used olive oil, which is what I had on hand. Due to high temperatures used when grilling, you may rather use an oil with a higher smoke point, such as avocado oil.
Assembling the patties
In a large bowl mix together the ground turkey, egg, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder and oil.
Season the mixture with salt and pepper and form it into 4 equal patties about ½ cup each and place them onto a parchment paper lined pan or plate.
Place them into the freezer to chill for 25-30 minutes. Why? This will help the grilled turkey burgers become firmer and hold together better when you grill them. Tip: set a timer (such as on your phone) so that you do not forget about them. Speaking from, ahem, experience. 🤦🏼♀️
Preheat the grill to medium heat, about 450 degrees F. Let it get nice and hot.
Tips to prevent sticking
Next, you need to take measures to ensure the turkey burgers won’t stick to the grill. Otherwise they may come apart when you try to flip/ remove them. You have a few options here. You can oil the grill grates or carefully spray with grill cooking spray.
Alternatively, you can also brush on a little oil onto both sides of the turkey burger patties themselves, prior to cooking.
Grilling the turkey burgers
Remove the burgers from the freezer, press down on the center of each burger to make a little indention. This simply helps them cook more evenly.
Place the patties onto the grill and you are going to cook them for about 5-7 minutes per side.
Carefully flip them using a metal spatula in one single quick motion to make sure they don’t fall apart when you flip them.
Once the burgers have reached an internal temperature of 150 degrees, they are done.
Remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. If you are adding cheese then add it to the top of each burger after you flip the burgers for the last 2 minutes of cooking time.
Serving and topping grilled turkey burgers
Time to serve your grilled turkey burgers! You could go a bunch of different directions with toppings, but we like the classics the best at my house.👌🏻
This one went something like this: Add the bottom of a bun onto a plate, spread some mayo on it, add a slice of lettuce, the cooked burger, ketchup, mustard, tomato and top with the other half of the bun.
I hope you enjoy the grilled turkey burgers!

Recipe Notes
- Nutritional information is approximate and was calculated using a recipe nutrition label generator. Numbers include a regular hamburger bun, but no toppings were included in this calculation, since these can vary by preference.
- Cook time will always vary by patty size and thickness, so please use common sense. If you want to be absolutely sure, use a meat thermometer to confirm the center has reached an internal temp of 150 degrees F.
- Ground chicken would also work well in this recipe.
