Air fryer hush puppies are a delicious appetizer or side, perfect with your favorite seafood. And they are made with far less oil than the deep fried version.
Y’all! I am so excited to publish these. Don’t get me wrong, I will still order hush puppies at the restaurants without apology, because YOLO.😉👌🏻
But when I make food at home, I tend to experiment with tweaks and make it with a little more TLC (to my heart and arteries, lol).
Ingredients
Always use the best quality ingredients you have access to.
Hush puppies are usually based off a corn bread recipe, with a few extra things thrown in.
Mixing the batter
First, mix up the dry ingredients. Combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and chili powder in a medium size mixing bowl, and stir/ whisk to combine.
Next, mix up the wet ingredients. In a separate larger mixing bowl, combine the egg, honey and milk and olive oil or butter.
Then add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well to form a wet thick batter.
Add the peppers and onion.
Fold in the peppers and onions.
Prepping and cooking air fryer hush puppies
Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F (this takes 5 minutes for my air fryer).
Once the air fryer is ready, place a parchment liner into the bottom of the air fryer basket and spray with cooking spray.
Using a 2 tablespoon size ice cream scoop or large spoon, drop the dough/ batter into the air fryer basket, making sure to space each of the hush puppies about 2 inches apart. You will likely need to do this in batches.
Close the basket and cook at 380 degrees F for 4minutes, then flip each one over and cook for 4 more minutes on the other side.. Once they are done, spray them with a bit more olive oil spray and sprinkle with sea salt. This helps the salt to stick.
Continue until you have cooked all of the hush puppies. This recipe yields about 12-15 hush puppies.
Enjoy hush puppies by themselves, or with regular butter, honey butter, tartar sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Nutritional information is approximate and was calculated using a recipe nutrition label generator.
Some air fryer models only cook in 25 degree increments. 375 degrees F should work just fine.👌🏻
